What do I do?

Creating. Copywriting. Illustrating. Brand work. Podcasting. Adventuring.

“Sarah Pendergrass is like a Swiss army knife with her hand in illustration, podcasting, writing, and of course all kinds of adventure pursuits.” We Are Explorers Podcast.

It’s taken me years (almost four decades of life on this spinning planet) to realise I spend a bunch of both professionally paid and free time lovingly CREATING. While adventure feels like a natural and easy thing to own and challenge myself with and I’m familiar with long multi-day missions and fun solo overnighters; calling myself “creative” has been a slower and sometimes vulnerable burn.

Yet, the reality is I’ve worked professionally in Marketing and content creation for global brands both Client and Agency side for over 15 years. I’ve run several etsy shops in both printmaking and illustration. I’ve been creating my own blogs for nearly a decade and now find myself illustrating and annotating many of the things I’ve been writing about for years. I also host a podcast, all about everyday humans who love to adventure. Everything I create comes out of full alignment for my love of nature, adventure and the outdoors - wherever possible.

  • In my day to day I work as a copywriter and Head of Content for a Digital Marketing Agency. Outside of my day job I write features for adventure based publications and have been published in local and global titles including (upcoming!) the Lonely Planet, bikepacking.com, Bicycling Australia and I’m a regular contributor for We Are Explorers.

  • I hand illustrate, digitally, my favourite things - namely adventures; maps; annotated adventure gear reviews and yes, dogs. I take commissions from adventure brands, magazines & individuals who love my work.

  • I created and co-host the Into the Wee Hours Podcast. Our mission is to elevate the voice of the everyday adventurer. We are a female duo interviewing all kinds of people about all kinds of adventures. Check us out on Apple and Spotify at Into the Wee Hours Podcast.

  • An idea that hatched in 2018 - and brought to life in 2023. In August I ran on trails from the most southerly point of mainland Scotland (the bottom) to the most northerly point of a remote chain of ten islands, the Outer Hebrides - finishing at the Butt of Lewis. Lighthouse to lighthouse. The project name - Light to Light. 23 days. 675KM.

Recent Work & Features

I’m open to commissions and collaborations of all shapes and sizes. My main criteria is that they combine elements of adventure or nature and creativity. Writing or illustrating or sharing my voice (and elevating the voice of others) in these spaces is the stuff of dreams for me. This is a selection of recent work and features - from copywriting to illustration to podcast interviews (beyond my own podcast) and some other adventure stuff in between.

Let’s Work Together

If you like my style and have an idea (or are looking for an idea) I’d love to hear from you.
